BEN-GAL CHEERLEADER'S FEDERAL TRIAL DATE SET IN COVINGTON
You may remember the woman who taught at Dixie Heights High School during the week and cheered on the Bengals as a Ben-Gal on Sundays that was smeared by a trashy gossip website called The Dirty. The site claimed Sarah Jones had two venereal diseases. She sued. She won. $11 million. But:
The company says Jones sued the wrong company, and now the judge says all evidence must be turned in by May 11th. The trial is now set to begin at the federal courthouse in Covington June 4.
Jones was accused separately of having an inappropriate relationship with a Dixie student. She resigned from teaching.

KY STATE HOUSE PASSES CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING
It means more than 400,000 Kentuckians could have a new Congressman, should the state senate follow suit. From the Courier-Journal:
The approval came over Republican protests that the map changes were designed to help Democratic Reps. John Yarmuth and Ben Chandler.
But House Speaker Greg Stumbo, who proposed the new map, argued that the map he favors simply “brings geographic and common sense” to the state’s six congressional districts.
Herald-Leader:
The bill now goes to the Republican-led Senate, where it is expected to undergo major changes. “Absolutely, the Senate will change the House version to make the new map more like the current map,” said Senate State Government Chairman Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown. If the Senate changes the House plan “in a positive manner, we certainly will take a look at it,” said House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg. “If the Senate chooses to change it in a political manner, I doubt it would meet very much success over here. We would just have to do without a plan.”
cn|2:
Meanwhile, the timing for the state House and Senate districts remains less clear. House Democratic leaders said Monday they hoped to take up the House map at 10 a.m. Wednesday during the House state government committee.
The Senate Republican majority will unveil its suggested Senate districts after the House acts, Thayer said.
WFPL:
The proposal would cut out the eastern edge of the 4th Congressional District and extend it south to Nelson County, even picking up some of Jefferson County in the process.

'FOLLOW THE CONNECTIONS' IN 4TH DISTRICT RACE FOR CONGRESS
Really terrific video from cn|2 that explains all the wacky political connections between candidates right here in this area vying for Geoff Davis's seat and more:
And perhaps the most remarkable part are all the connections between the GOP primaries for Congress, the 23rd state Senate District, 66th state House district and open 63rd state House District. State Rep. Alecia Webb-Edgington of Fort Wright serves as the center of this web considering she’s vacating one of those spots (63rd House) to run for another (4th Congressional) and has former opponents and allies running in other races.
Check it out at the link.

RARE WORLD WAR I BOOKS AT COVINGTON LIBRARY
This is pretty neat:
“The Source Records of the Great War,” a set of seven, gold-leafed volumes on World War I (1914-18) were donated this month by the Sons of The American Legion and the American Legion Moon Brothers Post 275 in Independence.
“This presentation is an important means of fulfilling our organization’s mission to preserve the memories of our forefathers who fought in the Great Wars,” said John Dietz, past national commander of the Sons of the American Legion, which is made up of descendants of those who fought in any U.S. conflict since WWI. “Ensuring that future generations of Americans have an appreciation of our nation’s history is critical to the survival of our Republic.”

TV AD CAMPAIGN PUSHES FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS IN KENTUCKY
Have you seen any yet?
The new group, Kentuckians Advocating Reform in Education, launched its ads last week to coincide with the opening of the legislative session. The organization is spending about $100,000 on the campaign, a group leader says. It's believed to be the first widespread TV promotion of charter schools ever in Kentucky, one of nine states that don't allow such schools.
KARE is awfully close to KERA which sometimes elicits bad feelings from people.

CAN YOU FEEL TIM TEBOW'S FIRE BURNING?
The guy who wrote and performed the 1980s classic song St Elmo's Fire revisited the old tune as an homage to Tim Tebow. It's just as awful as you think:
Sounds like something from South Park only it isn't. It actually happened. Wow.
