WOMAN CONVICTED IN COVINGTON MURDER UP FOR PAROLE
One of three people convicted in a 1987 murder could be a free woman if the state parole board allows it:
With 58-year-old Brenda Humphrey's parole hearing set for April 18 at Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women in Pewee Valley, Shinkle is learning more about how her sister died in 1987 and reliving the loss while preparing to try to keep Humphrey in prison.AP via WLWT
Humphrey and 55-year-old Gregory Lee Wilson were convicted of kidnapping, raping, robbing and killing 36-year-old Deborah Pooley, then dumping her body in a field about 35 miles from Indianapolis. A judge sentenced Wilson to death and he remains on Kentucky's death row. Humphrey got a sentence of life in prison without parole for 25 years - giving her a chance at freedom this year.

COVINGTON NEIGHBORS WANTED NO PART OF URBAN RENEWAL
The Licking Riverside Historic District was nearly torn down in the late 1960s (Can you imagine???):
Today, the five- to seven-block riverfront area east of the Roebling Suspension Bridge and north of Fourth Street might be populated by 1970s-era towers if residents hadn’t defended Licking Riverside with furious arguments in public meetings. Renderings published in newspapers at the time showed how the area was to look after the renewal.Very cool story at the link.
At one crucial moment, a woman rushed from a meeting to alert residents when the issue arose without notice on a city commission agenda. A newspaper article compared her rush to Paul Revere’s late-night ride.

MAYOR SCHEPER TO ADDRESS LATONIA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION WEDNESDAY
Fresh off headlines from two important achievements on his ten-point plan, Covington Mayor Chuck Scheper will address the Latonia Business Association Wednesday afternoon. Last Friday, Scheper announced that agreements were reached between the City of Covington and its three public employees unions which followed news from a week before that Covington was eliminating its 911 emergency dispatch services and that the County would be taking over.
The LBA luncheon is Wednesday from 11:30AM-1:00PM at Twin Oaks golf course. The buffet lunch is $11.

Remember early into the first term of newly elected Commissioner of Agriculture James Comer when he fired the long-serving state apiarist (beekeeper)? Now he's hired a new one... but this one's wife owns a beekeeping supply store:

Burgess's wife, Jane, operates the Kelley beekeeping-supply business in Western Kentucky.
