CANDIDATES MAKE FINAL PUSH BEFORE TUESDAY'S PRIMARY ELECTION
The candidates for Covington Mayor & Commission made their final rounds of campaigning over the weekend and the wonderful Village Breeze publication has remarks from most of them. Highlights:
MAYORAL CANDIDATES
|
Sherry Carran
"I have always had a desire to improve people's lives through more pleasing and comfortable spaces. That is why I received my degree in architecture. But improving immediate surroundings can only do so much. I believe that improving the physical space of the larger community is necessary economically, environmentally, and socially." She will "work to bring this understanding to city decision-making."
|
Steve Casper
Steve Casper
The candidate highlights the three points of his campaign: "everyday heroes", "smart investment", and "common cents". According to Casper's responses that includes "supporting the men and women who risk their lives protecting our citizens and city", providing "incentives for owners to improve their property, attract business, and create new jobs", and seeking collaboration with "public schools, Kenton County, Gateway, library, and other entities".

Mayoral candidate Dara McDowell and Commission candidates Neil Gilreath and Mildred Rains did not respond to the Breeze. The candidates have longer responses in this most recent issue, so come down to Mainstrasse and pick up a copy that includes lots of other great news about the city.

And because The River City News likes to keep an eye on everything, these views are brought to you from the Pharaoh's fury ride:
Goodfella's Pizza made a return visit before its permanent space on Main Street is ready. You're gonna love this pizza. Another feather in Covington's cap as far as pizza places go.

COMMUNITY GARDEN IN COVINGTON WILL FEED POOR THIS SUMMER
The Madison Avenue Christian Church sends us this news:
The ground has been prepared and the soil is ready for planting at Madison Avenue Christian Church’s new Community Garden. Developed on a piece of land behind an apartment building adjacent to the Church property, and with the help of the University of Kentucky/Kenton County Extension Office, volunteers and community residents are planting vegetables to help feed the growing number of poor and hungry in Covington.
(snip)
The church is also hoping to reach out to suburban and rural home gardeners and farmers who might contribute some of their produce for the meals. “Our food needs are greater than what our garden will provide this summer,” says Madison Avenue Christian Church Pastor Simon. The church is asking the public to plant a few extra vegetables in their home gardens to share with the feeding program throughout the summer. “We hope to connect with people in the suburbs and help increase the joy they receive through their garden by donating some of their home-grown vegetables to our meal program.”
The garden will be planted during a community cook-out tonight at 6:00PM.
