The building that once housed J.E. Brock Furniture at 19th & Madison was in the process of being razed Tuesday afternoon. After spending more than a decade vacant and crumbling into disrepair, the owners of the business that neighbors the building, Tesco Elevator, is tearing it down to make way for a parking lot. The Brock building was in such disrepair that the second floor had mostly collapsed into the first floor which had at least partially collapsed into the basement. Tesco owner Bruce Steffen tells The River City News that he purchased the building from Jehovah Witnesses which had bought the property in anticipation of putting a church on the site but the religious sect was denied by the City of Covington on zoning grounds.
