OMNICARE LANDS TAXPAYER INCENTIVES FROM KENTUCKY
Though the large corporation is bailing on its Covington offices for Cincinnati, Omnicare's Glasgow operation received $600,000 in tax incentives from the Commonwealth of Kentucky for expansion:
Omnicare in Glasgow, $300,000 to expand its pharmacy-related distribution facility. The company estimates the expansion will cost $15.7 million. It is expected to add 42 jobs that pay an average hourly wage of $18, including benefits. The company also received approval for $300,000 in incentives under a different program.
Omnicare's move from Covington to Cincinnati is expected to be complete by the end of this month.

KENTUCKY APPROVES INCENTIVES FOR LOW-COST CARRIER AT CVG
In other incentives news from the Commonwealth:
Kentucky’s Economic Development Finance Authority voted May 31 to offer up to $270,000 a year for 10 years. The project involves an $8.5 million expansion that would produce 120 new jobs in year one, then grow to 150 within three years, according to state records. The company is considering a 36,000-square-foot lease and plans to spend $1.5 million on equipment, $1.3 million on improvement, $4.5 million in rent and $1.2 million in “start up costs.”
Southern Air’s business ties to DHL are thought to be an advantage for the Northern Kentucky site, since the freight carrier has rapidly expanded at the Hebron airport.

DESTINATION: GRADUATION PROFILE
Another soon-to-be Holmes graduate is profiled by Covington Independent Public Schools:
Nicole Lang likes working with her hands, whether it’s painting with watercolors or tinkering with a car engine. She’s left her mark figuratively and literally at Holmes High School. She used her artistic talents to work on sets for several musicals at school, including Beauty and the Beast and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
However, she is seriously considering pursuing a higher-education certification or degree in automotive technology. She likes working on cars and trucks with her father.
“My goal is to become an accomplished automotive technician, possibly with my own business,” she said.

BILL WOULD MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO VIEW CHILD PORN INTENTIONALLY
But accidentally, it's okay:
It has long been illegal to possess child porn, but most possession laws were written before the advent of the Internet, where much viewing of child porn occurs, Sinnette said. The committee amended his bill to make it clear that inadvertent viewing of child porn is not a crime.

KENTUCKY ECONOMIC CONFIDENCE IS BELOW AVERAGE
Kentuckians are concerned:
Income plays a role, as expected. It's positively associated with the percent of people who saw current economic conditions as good (.49) and negatively associated with the percent that viewed them as bad (-.36) and getting worse (-.55). There was no correlation between income and the percent of respondents who saw economic conditions improving.

Interestingly, Kentucky relies more on government handouts than most states:
The very parts of the United States with the highest support for the Tea Party and libertarian movements in general have the most people receiving federal aide, according to the Times research, which was in turn drawn from U.S. Census data and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

SPEAKING OF GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS...
Nobody likes government handouts more than Omnicare and now the greedy corporation that is bailing on its taxpayer-subsidized RiverCenter offices watches itself get an upgrade from Credit Suisse after a high profile deal fell apart:
Share of Omnicare (NYSE: OCR) have underperformed the market by nearly 11 percent since the New York Post on Jan. 12 broke news that the deal was in jeopardy, Glen Santangelo and other analysts with Credit Suisse, the Zurich-based financial services company, wrote.
“We believe the potential removal of that overhang later this week will allow investors to refocus on near-term fundamentals when the company reports on 2/23, which we believe will propel shares higher over time,” the analysts wrote.
Ah, business.

FEDS MOVE TO BLOCK OMNICARE'S HOSTILE TAKEOVER
Who says you can't have it all? The Federal Trade Commission:
The FTC said its move to block Omnicare's acquisition of PharMerica alleges "that the combination of the two largest U.S. long-term care pharmacies would harm competition and enable Omnicare to raise the price of drugs for Medicare Part D consumers and others."
Business First
|
PHARMERICA HOPES THIS ENDS OMNICARE'S INTENTIONS:
“We are pleased the FTC has made a prompt decision to resolve the competitive issues surrounding Omnicare’s attempted hostile takeover of PharMerica Corp.,” CEO Gregory S. Weishar said in a news release. “As we have said from the beginning, we believed antitrust clearance would be difficult to achieve and, with that belief now confirmed, we hope that Omnicare will end its hostile pursuit of PharMerica.

MOTHER OF GOD CHURCH SURVIVES AGAINST ALL ODDS
Great piece by Mike Rutledge:
Victor Canfield, the church’s facilities manager and one of its historians and archivists, still feels the emotions when he thinks back to the 1986 flames in the church that already was on the National Register of Historic Places.
“I get teary-eyed now,” Canfield said. “Because I thought somehow they will put the fire out, but still, you wondered – especially after an hour and a half, when they had the dome portion extinguished, and so they backed off, looking for the hot spots, and then it took off into the lantern and burned another hour and a half in the lantern.”
Canfield was told the 100-plus firefighters from Covington, Newport, Erlanger, Fort Mitchell and other departments were spraying about 2,000 gallons of water per minute on the roof.

MOREHEAD PRESIDENT JOINS NKU FOUNDATION IN QUESTIONING PIKEVILLE
With big cuts across the board for Kentucky's public universities, the chorus opposing Pikeville College's transition to the state system has grown by one college president:
(Morehead State President Wayne) Andrews said southeastern Kentucky isn’t the only area in Kentucky that would like to be home to a four-year public university.
“I think you could make the same case in other places in the commonwealth. So there’s a question that really needs to be examined as a public policy issue: Do we need a ninth comprehensive university? And if we need it, where should it be placed as opposed to saying, here’s the place and let’s put it there,” Andrews said.

We have the original Illinois title showing this vehicle was actually used by Barack. 19,000 miles driven when this vehicle was Obama's - I'm sure many of them were highway miles back & forth from Chicago to Springfield since Barack was an Illinois State Senator during 2004. He won election to the U.S. Senate in November of 2004 and perhaps drove the car in Washington D.C. and back to Chicago in 2005 & 2006. His Presidential Campaign began in February of 2007.A copy of the title showing the vehicle was in his name is now added to the photo section. This Chrysler was put into Obama's name on July 13, 2004 when the vehicle had 2 miles on it.
