CORRECTION:
THE DOCK AT THE MIKE FINK DID NOT "BREAK LOOSE" AS I REPORTED TODAY. RATHER, ACCORDING TO BEN BERNSTEIN OF BB RIVERBOATS, A ROUTINE SOMETHING OR OTHER. HERE'S HIS NOTE:
"You article from today 12/13/11 is completely incorrect.  You wrote about a dock breaking loose at the Mike Fink.  Before you start writing an article, you need to have your facts checked.  The dock you said broke away, was detached by our crew in order to roll the Spuds (Long Metal Poles) onto the parking lot to be used in a different project.  The barge they laid on does look worn down and like it would sink, but is foamed in its voids and over the years has absorbed a lot of water making it look that way.  The barge's buoyancy, however, is not affected even in this condition.  If you would like to check any facts in the future about these type of things, feel free to call our office.  I do believe you need to clarify your article and post a new one. "
I REGRET THE ERROR TREMENDOUSLY AND APOLOGIZE TO THE BERNSTEINS AND YOU, THE READERS. I FAILED TO VERIFY A WITNESS ACCOUNT WITH THE COMPANY, WHICH IS JOURNALISM 101. IN ANY CASE, THE PHOTOS ARE STILL ENJOYABLE AS AN EXAMPLE OF BUSINESS ON THE RIVERFRONT. SO, GO ON AND ENJOY THEM... AND I'LL KEEP WATCHING FOR DEVELOPMENTS AT THE MIKE FINK.

A dock connected to the Mike Fink broke loose, washed away and partially sank late Tuesday morning. A team from the historic steamboat and former restaurant's parent company, BB Riverboats, responded quickly and saved the dock, reattaching it to the Fink. The River City News was there as events unfolded and photos are below.

  1. I heard someone was found dead on the Fink a couple of weeks ago. Can you find out info on this? Also, what is up with the deplorable condition this boat is in? If I or one of the residents parked a rusting, falling apart car on the street, you can bet the city would be seeing to it that it be moved.
