MORE FROM THE WELCOME HOUSE:
Charla first came to Welcome House three years ago this month. She was pregnant and homeless. She was running out of options until a friend told her about the Gardens at Greenup. The program allows Charla to live in an affordable apartment while she goes back to school. Charla had always hated school, but was willing to do anything to provide a good home for her child. In 2009, Charla didn't know how to type or use a computer. She enrolled at Cincinnati State and obtained an Associates Degree of Arts and earned a Deaf Study Certificate. She didn't stop there. Charla is now enrolled in a program through Ashford University and is on track to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences in November. She has loved the online courses because they allow her to spend more time with her young daughter.

A bill filed by state Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, and passed by the Kentucky Senate would give county judge-executives and fiscal courts more control over who staffs library boards. It would consume the entirety of all the federal funds we get from Washington D.C. every year to build that bridge. It’s not going to happen.”

It looks like a busy week was had at the Kenton County Circuit Court. A long list of suspects was put away, including one from a high-speed car chase that ended on foot in Covington's Goebel Park:
Michael Kidd
After loading the groceries in the passenger side, she walked around the back of the car, only to be confronted by the man who was now wielding a knife and demanding her car. The woman threw her keys at the robber as she backed away. He continued towards her, now demanding her purse which she also threw. (snip) Just before crossing into Ohio, the car cut across three lanes of traffic onto the 5th Street exit in Covington. Miles gave chase. After passing two cars on the single lane exit, the robber then stopped the car in the middle of the exit and ran on foot. Miles also exited his car and gave chase on foot through Goebel Park towards the clock tower. By this time, Covington Police were responding to assist. Miles chased the robber to the former NKY Convention & Visitors Bureau where the he scaled a fence but then fell to the ground and stopped. Miles directed Covington Officer Ryan Eldridge to the other side of the fence where Michael Kidd was arrested at gunpoint.

Willoughby was the suspect in a significant Kenton County case for two reasons:
This case was important because it was Kenton County's first Manufacturing Meth case to go to trial but even more special because of the videotaped testimony of Sgt.Brett Benton. Just weeks after being deployed to Afghanistan, Benton was tragically killed when an IED exploded near the vehicle in which he was riding. Benton's death hit NKY law enforcement hard. Benton was well liked and well respected by everyone he met. He is survived by his wife, Bethany.

LAWYERS STILL FIGHTING OVER MONEY FROM CATHOLIC SEX ABUSE
The lawyers who helped force the Diocese of Covington to pay up after decades of it allowing the sexual abuse of children are still fighting with each other:
Lawyer Barbara Bonar filed a civil lawsuit five years ago in Boone Circuit Court claiming Chesley acted unethically by forcing her out of the sex-abuse litigation with the Diocese of Covington and refusing to pay her for critical work that brought about the class-action settlement. The roughly $84 million settlement was distributed among about 200 people, with the amount each received determined by the severity of the abuse.
The case is now before the Kentucky Supreme Court.
MINISTER WANTS TRIAL DELAYED UNTIL AFTER THE WORLD ENDS
Ah, the crazy things that happen inside the Kenton County Courthouse:
An Internet-based minister who prophesizes the world will end on May 27 wants his trial on federal tax evasion charges delayed until after that date. Laywers for Ronald Weinland, 62, of Union filed a motion Thursday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky asking that the trial, set for March 20, be delayed for at least 75 days.
MEANWHILE, FORMER GOVERNOR BRERETON JONES HAS COME OUT AGAINST BESHEAR'S BILL:
Although he has previously proposed a constitutional amendment, Jones has said that he cannot support gambling legislation that does not designate where the money would go. "I have not changed," Jones told the Herald-Leader on Friday. "I'm not opposing casinos but what I am saying is we need to let the people decide. We should let people vote on where the casinos go and where the money goes and we're not letting them do that in this bill. This says let the legislature makes all the decisions."
Herald-Leader/Janet Patton | THE HORSE INDUSTRY IS HAPPY THAT LOCAL CHAMBERS, LIKE THE NKY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, IS SUPPORTING THE BILL:

And year after year, our members overwhelmingly support expanded gaming and the citizens’ right to vote. We believe it is time to finally put the issue on the ballot.

I knew I had to do something."
Northern Kentucky attorney and radio talk show host Eric Deters is calling for an armed revolution in Washington, DC to remove President Obama from office. His plans were announced on his Facebook page Thursday and then reinforced during his radio show on AM 1160 Friday morning. Excerpts from the Facebook posting:
Is Obama less of a tyrant than George III? He’s far worse. (snip)It is the height of hypocrisy for Obama and our political leaders to support an armed revolt in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Iran, and Syria when in fact, nothing in those countries comes close to a threat to our country as Barack Obama in the White House. We should gather in Washington with guns and demand the peaceful resignation and departure from the Presidency of Barack Obama.(snip)When there are guns and a crowd, there could be violence and death. So? Is not the cause of saving America worth dying for no less honorable than dying for her in her defense? I say it is just as honorable. Barack Obama is a traitor to America.
Eric Deters
Comments in opposition to Deters's statement were removed from the page, but those comments that supported his position remain. The rhetoric was amplified Friday morning during Deters's radio talk show during which Deters promised to issue a national press release after fully developing his plans over the weekend. "I don't fear the Secret Service, the Secret Service should fear me because I'm the Bulldog," Deters yelled into the mic. "The Secret Service can't do anything because I've committed no crime." | "I marvel at how Barack Obama and these Democrats can support these armed uprisings overseas when in fact Barack Obama is more of a threat to national security than any of those tyrants," Deters continued. The host also took aim at the First Lady. "His wife, Miss Michelle, who spends all our money hobnobbing around the world like Marie Antoinette, she's the black Marie Antoinette, 'let them eat cake while I travel'," Deters said. | "Forty-eight percent of this country thinks Barack Obama is doing a good job," he said. "Who the hell are these dumbasses? How can you claim Barack Obama is doing a good job and deserves reelection when he's bankrupting us, putting us all out of work? I hate him! I hate him!" | Attorney General Eric Holder was also a target during a tirade against Operation Fast & Furious. "How is Eric Holder not strung up and impeached," Deters asked. "It's remarkable." Deters also contradicted his own call for a peaceful revolution as the nearly ninety-minute tirade continued. "I am convinced that sooner or later those of us that are burning with everything we're burning with have to rise up and it can't be peaceful, peaceful doesn't work," he said. "It used to work in this country when the ballot really mattered and we had honorable people. I'm not calling for anarchy. I'm calling for the government that our founding fathers meant to have. Your President, Barack Obama, he has publicly said if Congress doesn't want to act then I will. Your jackwagon, wimpy, Socialist, Muslim-leaning, Christian-hating, whip sack of a President wants to ignore the Constitution. Well, guess what Mr. President. We don't have to wait for an election to demand your resignation." | "It's not about race," Deters continued. "It's about incompetency, actually it's worse than incompetency. How could we elect a guy like Barack Obama and let him keep doing what he's doing to destroy America? Doesn't that ring a bell with any of you dumbasses? When is it enough for you as an American to pick up a gun and go with me to Washington versus sitting there?" | "This country will never get back on the right track, we will never be able to right the ship unless two things happen: Obama and the Democrats (in the Senate) are defeated," Deters continued. "If that doesn't happen, we're done. So the only thing that can solve it is an armed revolution of the taxpayers where we basically say, Mr. President, we don't care if you're reelected. You're out of here. We're here, we're armed and you're out of here. He'll be so scared."
"He's such a wimp but he's a thug from Chicago, a thug wimp," Deters said.
