MOTHER CONTINUES TO WEIGH IN ON SEARCH FOR MISSING TEEN
Donna Johnson, the mother of Paige Johnson, the teen who disappeared from Covington nearly two years ago, explains at The River City News what she thinks happened:
I didn't know that you could get record of you own cell phone pings. I know it took a while for the police to get the phone company to get it for them ,it was a procedure they had to go through because I remember having to wait. She may have very well still been alive when they were in east fort. I dont know of too many pings after that just a few and back to his house. It is very possible that something happened between east fort and home and then he took her down there and left his phone at home.Another thing that really bothers me is that he didn't take her straight to Brittany's door, he admitted giving her beer what kind of man is he to get a young girl drunk and then let her out in a dark and dangerous area???? Why not make sure she got to where she was going safely???? I tell you why ...it is because he never dropped her off in Covington ,we WOULD have taken her to the door!!! But lets just say for the sake of argument that he got an underage girl drunk and just let her out on some dark corner, in my eyes he IS responsible for what ever happened to her!!! But I do agree he can debate it all day long and that is not getting us nowhere. We will just have to wait and hope and pray that the whole truth will come out and I do believe that it will very soon.
A lengthy back-and-forth continues at this link: Search for Missing Teen Resumes Suddenly

THE TRUTH ABOUT BRIDGE TOLLS
If a the Brent Spence Bridge project is ever completed there likely won't be any toll booths, even if there are tolls:
In fact, by the time a new bridge is in place, there might not be a toll booth left in the nation. Manufacturing of toll-basket mechanisms has ceased, and future tollways will be all-electronic, including the two new toll bridges in Louisville-Southern Indiana.
“You’ve got to get beyond the thinking that people will be stopping, throwing money into a basket, then waiting for the light to change to go,” Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson said. “Come on, guys, it’s the 21st century.”
More truth about tolls at the link.

THE RISE OF ECONOMIC SEGREGATION
See any of this in Covington:
"Growing income inequality does not automatically lead to growing residential segregation by income. Conceivably, we could still have a middle class hollowing out but people still living in mixed neighborhoods," says Paul Taylor, one of the report’s authors. Turns out this is not, however, what is happening. As Americans are growing farther apart on the income scale, we are also effectively moving apart from each other within cities, into our own economic enclaves. So why is that? The answer, Taylor says, may lie more in human behavior than economic data.
"We know over the whole entirety of human history that people have a tremendous tendency to cluster among themselves, whether in tribes, whether in nations," Taylor says. "Like attracts like. That’s not always the case for some people who value diversity. But it’s sort of hardwired into human nature."

CROSS-COUNTY CONNECTOR COULD GET $54 MILLION
Kentucky 536 through Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties still would not be built, but right-of-way design would be funded. The roads bill in Frankfort, in addition to several other Covington projects, includes funding for Taylor Mill Road and Hands Pike:
The plan also includes $21 million for the completion of the Ky. 16 widening in Taylor Mill and Covington and for widening an accident-prone portion of Hands Pike. “If the road plan passes intact April 12, it will be the best road plan for my district in several years,” said Sen. Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown.

KENTUCKY WOMAN PUTS HOME-MADE UK QUILT ON EBAY FOR $150,000
A Bardstown woman spent years working on a quilt that includes the name of every player to suit up for the Wildcats since 1903. Now that it's finished -- she wants big bucks for it:
"I sat down and tried to figure out what someone would pay me if I was sewing for them," she told Page 2. "The hours I put into it, I tried to figure out the middle pay, and that's how I came up with that price. For 18 years straight I worked on it. It wasn't 40 hours per week, so I probably had six or seven years of full-time hours tied up in this. I'm just trying to figure out an honest price for it." $150,000 is the least she'd sell the quilt for, but she is hoping to surpass $200,000. The "buy it now" price is $275,000. There were zero bids as of Friday afternoon, with three days left to bid.

ACCUSED KILLER: VICTIM WANTED TO DIE
The man accused of killing a woman in Urbana, Ohio and then disposing of parts of her body in South Covington says Jessica Rae Sacco asked to die:
He claims she told him that she wished she didn't have to die, but that she understood her actions. "She was pleading with me to slash her throat and slash her wrist...do something. And I told her... No.. I can't do that to you and she told me to stab her then. So I just held my hand above her stomach. She grabbed my wrist and pulled it into her stomach." Puccio also claims her last words were, "I still love you and I forgive you."

NEWPORT POLICE FIND KIDS, DRUGS IN HOTEL ROOM
The discovery was made in a Fort Wright hotel room, where nothing good ever happens:
Newport police took Haley into custody today, finding him in a Fort Wright motel room with his girlfriend, their two young children and other family members. They also found a large quantity of prescription pills and other drugs. "There were heroin needles in the room, pills scattered around the floor in the room."

Police believe he's the same man who robbed the Walgreens on Monmouth. "About a week ago we had a robbery at Walgreens where a male came into store, he had a toboggan on and he produced a note."

STOP PANICKING OVER BULLIES?

An alternative viewpoint:
As the parent now of two school-age boys, I also worry that my own kids will have to deal with such ugly and destructive behavior. And I welcome the common-sense antibullying strategies relayed in "Stop Bullying": Talk to your friends, your parents and your teachers. Recognize that you're not the problem. Don't be a silent witness to bullying.
But is America really in the midst of a "bullying crisis," as so many now claim? I don't see it. I also suspect that our fears about the ubiquity of bullying are just the latest in a long line of well-intentioned yet hyperbolic alarms about how awful it is to be a kid today.

KENTUCKY FANS CONTINUE TO SHOW HOW CRAZY WE ALL ARE...
One UK fan is so committed to landing a top recruit for the Wildcats next year that he is offering up his wife in exchange for prospect Nerlens Noel:
Now, of course that had a lot to do with the fact that they were playing there, but I'm always just shocked at how dedicated Kentucky fans are. One man asked me if I wanted to take his wife home with me, ha ha. I couldn't believe it. I was like, "Nah, I'm good," but that's just how insane the fans were down there. Great atmosphere.

HOTTEST TRENDS IN URBAN HOUSING
Great read for urban enthusiasts in Covington:
Number one among reasons why this trend toward more city living and walkable suburban living is the "great convergence," as Laurie Volk calls it, of the two largest generations in American history. Together the Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964) and Millennials (born 1981-2000), account for more than 150 million Americans. Ben points out that a number that size is sufficiently large that even small portions within it can "have multiplier effects on housing supply and demand."
