HUNDREDS FIGHT FOR COVINGTON IN BRIDGE BATTLE
Lots of familiar Covington faces from the past and present flooded the NKY Convention Center with a unified message Wednesday evening: the Brent Spence Bridge plan, as it stands now, just won't do. One consistent theme from those who spoke publicly was that Covington could very well die without its changes added to the plan. Full story with lots of quotes and photos at the link.

MORE: Homes on Crescent Avenue will make way for new bridge
So residents for decades have had the idea that someday their houses might be taken – perhaps in a couple of years, maybe well after that.
That’s a big question for many: When will the properties be bought? Kentucky officials can’t forecast that very well, because it depends on when federal funding for the mammoth project becomes available. It seems unlikely, though, that any purchases will be made in the next year or two – even from those eager to sell.

CHUCK EILERMAN SCORES BIG IN FIRST ROUND OF FUNDRAISING
Chuck Eilerman
First time candidate Chuck Eilerman has posted impressive fundraising numbers in his bid for a seat on the Covington City Commission. Here are the details:
  • Eilerman raised $11,745 and spent a little more than $6,600 so far
  • The funds come from 25 individual contributions
  • Notable contributors to Eilerman's campaign: Corporex Chairman Bill Butler ($1,000), Mary Bernstein ($250), Shirley Bernstein ($200), Oakley Farris ($250), David Herriman ($995), Jim Huff ($250), Col Owens ($150), James Salyers ($250), Bob Sanders ($200)
  • Eilerman also received 83 "unitemized" contributions of $100 or less
Eilerman's impressive fundraising numbers follow reports from incumbent Steve Frank and incumbent Shawn Masters who has withdrawn from the race. For their reports, click here. As reports from other candidates, including those running for mayor, are available they will be posted here.

Board member Glenda Huff will serve as chair at tonight's Covington School Board meeting as determined immediately following former Chairman Mike Fitzgerald's announcement that he would be stepping down as chair, but remaining on the board.  The River City News will have the meeting covered for you. We are accepting applications for delivery drivers (to begin in May). If you are interested, send us a private message and include a phone number. Driver must have reliable transportation, be available evenings, be responsible, friendly, and service oriented, and a good knowledge of the COV and surrounding areas is a major plus. There are some insurance requirements also. The person(s) we hire will be able to have some input on things like delivery range, etc.
