    CLUES TO COVINGTON'S PAST UNCOVERED
What did preservationists find underneath part of the former Jacob Price site? The answer provides an important link to Covington's history and the people who lived on this corner. An exclusive report is at the link. 
"Outhouses are interesting in many ways because people threw things in there that they didn't think people would look at again, so you look in there and you see secrets, like people who wanted to grow their hair back or liquor bottles," said Jeannine Kreinbrink, who led the excavation.

What's so awesome about Covington, anyway? Lots! And this group loves to celebrate it as it plans great things for Covington's future. The next meeting is Monday at 6:00PM at Pike Street Lounge. "This meeting’s theme will be “all hands on deck.” We will start with a quick meeting and then break out into workshop sessions to work on upcoming projects. Breakout session options are: the Index of Awesome Zine, or the AC Underground Marketing Campaign. Cash bar. We hope to see you there!"

Covington City Commission meeting
NOTE: This meeting starts at 5:00PM. On the agenda: 
  • First reading of the proposed budget ordinance for the 2012-13 fiscal year (no vote will be taken). Read about some of the details within the budget here: Long Night at City Hall Includes More Talk of Layoffs 
  • Purchase of services from Mobilcomm to narrowband the public safety communication towers ($22,858.58 from general fund)
  • Purchase of two street sweepers ($351,512 from capital improvements fund)
  • Rescinding the approval of a bid from Heitzman Construction to perform roof work on 118 and 120 East Fifteenth Street (original bid was awarded for $89,750)
  • Executing a contract with Entryway, Inc in the amount of $66,000 for the rehabilitation of a single family home in Newport (938 Hamlet Street) as part of the Home Consortium's efforts in the river cities
  • Approval of the authorization of other city employees to execute documents in the Neighborhood Stabilization Program
  • Various appointments and reappointments to city boards, and the resignation of a police dispatcher

Direction 2030's second round of public meetings begin
"Kenton County’s Direction 2030 plan is moving into its second phase with two scheduled public meetings intended to keep the public engaged in the planning process. One will be held in Ludlow on June 14th and the other in the Independence area in mid-July. The primary focus of the meetings will be refining and clarifying input received during public meetings last fall according to Paul Darpel, Chairman of the Kenton County Planning Commission."
