The hospital's Edgewood location still wants a neonatal intensive care unit, in spite of the state's rejection of the idea in February:
Even if St. Elizabeth prevails in the appeal to the Franklin Circuit Court, it could take up to a year, meaning the sickest NKy babies still will be transported across the river to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. When tornadoes struck last Friday, Boone and Kenton County officials called for help from area ambulances. Turfway sent both of its ambulances and EMTs Dave Merse and Brad Foley, who were deployed to Piner, Ky.

NKCAC staff are out and about today: Organizing and staffing a mobile food pantry for Tornado victims in Crittenden; Organizing volunteers and relief efforts in Peach Grove; helping with the cleanup in Piner. All in a day's work, but during a pretty unsual week as our region begins to put the pieces back together.|

The sponsor of Senate Bill 158, Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, said it is designed to protect the free exercise of religion from unnecessary restriction by government.Herald-Leader/Jack Brammer
He said it would give courts "more ammunition in favor of religion" when considering cases such as the jailing of Amish residents in Western Kentucky who refused to use orange safety triangles on their buggies and Christians in Bell County who want to hold public prayer at school athletic events.
