COUNTY CLERKS SEEK HELP FOLLOWING NKAPC BATTLE
After the Northern Kentucky Homebuilders' Association and the Northern Kentucky Tea Party's fraudulent attempt to place the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission on the ballot, county clerks are asking for help from the state legislature.
That number in Kenton County the petitioners had to meet was 17,491. Kenton County Clerk Gabrielle Summe said she had 40 employees at a time working to match the names on the petition with the voter records in the state database. Complicating the matter was duplicate names, illegible handwriting by some, work addresses and P.O. boxes instead of home addresses, and people using nicknames or variants on their names. Summe had a little more than a month to verify the petition.

ECONOMISTS: CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM FOR KENTUCKY'S BUDGET
From Kenny Colston:
(Snip) From the onset of their meeting Friday, economists who make up Kentucky’s Consensus Forecasting Group knew they had an odd situation on their hands, with international financial fears balanced with glowing Kentucky revenue receipts.
Kentucky’s state government could have an additional $137 to play with this fiscal year, economists predicted — with one big caveat. That is if the national economy doesn’t slip into t a double dip recession.

CVG TO UNVEIL NEW MARKETING PLAN
Our airport is expected to roll out new branding tomorrow:
The overhaul to CVG's image comes as officials work to attract new and expanded air service to the ailing airport. Once a vibrant Delta Air Lines hub, CVG has been battered in recent years by a series of cutbacks from the Atlanta-based airline. Delta has slashed daily departures from 600 to 150 and now offers just one direct international flight, to Paris.

HAVE YOU OCCUPIED ANYTHING LATELY?
We hear a lot about the tax burden being on the top 1%, and that may be true (afterall, if if you have all the income, you'll more than likely pay all the income tax). But not for a quarter of them.
The report, by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, found that when all federal taxes are taken into account — including those on wages, investment income and corporate profits — some households earning more than $1 million a year paid as little as 24 percent of their income to the Internal Revenue Service in 2006. That’s substantially less than the share paid by many families making less than $100,000 a year that faced a top effective tax rate exceeding 26.5 percent, the report said.

BOONE, CAMPBELL OUTSHINE KENTON IN PAYROLL TAX RECEIPTS
Stuck between two counties collecting more money than we are:
Kenton's payroll revenues of $3.1 million were down nearly 0.4 percent from the same period last year. Payroll taxes in Kenton County have dropped year-to-year during eight of the most recent 12 quarters. They had been up almost 1.7 percent in the second quarter. Kenton's best-ever third quarter for payroll receipts was almost $3.15 million in 2008, 1.3 percent higher than this year.
