AMERICANS READ AT 8TH GRADE LEVEL MAKING BALLOT MEASURES TOUGH
If the average American only reads at an 8th grade level, why are ballot measures worded in some states up to a 27th grade level (the PhD level)? In a new study by the Pew Research Center, Kentucky is among those states whose ballot measures are worded much higher than the population on average can read. Click the link for a fascinating graph.

The Avenue Lounge on Madison Avenue was the site of the most recent "Cincinnati Guerilla Queer Bar" in which local gays on both sides of the river patronize a traditionally-straight establishment. Some great photos from Friday night's event are now posted online. Check them out here: Flashbox Studios

COVINGTON LATIN'S CONSTRUCTION PROJECT COMPLETE
It looks really great. From today's Enquirer:
The openness is the most striking feature when walking into the new section. The three-floor structure has big picture windows with views of downtown Cincinnati, Covington and Newport. Open areas with couches near some of those windows give students places to relax during free periods and after school. "There is certainly a lot more room to congregate," said junior Peter Rodgers. "We're not just standing in corners like we used to."The new cafeteria on the first floor, which also has a stage for theatrical productions, can seat 240 students for lunch and 500 for plays. The old cafeteria in the basement has been converted into classrooms for art and health.

VOTE FOR LOCAL STORES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
The single most important way we can all help the local economy is by shopping at local, independent retailers. Covington has many shops with passionate, creative owners and they are committed to our city, so let's support them and others like them across the region. On November 19, is the Cincinnati Unchained event:
Every dollar you spend at a locally-owned business generates  approximately three times more economic activity than a dollar spent at  the typical “big-box.” By choosing to shop locally-owned for just one day, we can help support the local entrepreneurs in our own neighborhoods who help make Cincinnati unique.
Shop local! And only local!
