Joseph Matthew West
As the Saint Patrick's Day celebration in Covington's Mainstrasse Village was winding down early Sunday morning, a fight broke out between two men on the 600 block of Main Street. While precise details are still scant at this hour, what is known is that at least two men were involved and at least one of them received a punch to the face and a subsequent head injury upon hitting the ground. "There was some fashion of a physical altercation where a victim was struck," said Covington Police Lieutenant Colonel Spike Jones. "We're not sure what the genesis of that was, if our victim was singled out and attacked or what was going on with that."

After one man hit the ground, Joseph Matthew West, 23, fled the scene on foot before being taken down by Covington Police in the 5th Street parking lot. Police officers also rendered aid to the victim on Main Street before he was transported to University Hospital in Cincinnati where he is currently listed in serious but stable condition. Meantime, West has remained in the Kenton County Jail since Sunday morning where he faces one count of first degree assault and one count of first degree fleeing/evading. He is being held on $10,000 bond and is due in court on March 27. The investigation into what triggered the fight is ongoing at this time.
