HOLY CROSS WINS FOOTBALL STATE TITLE
Another great day to be a proud Covingtonian. The Holy Cross Indians beat previously undefeated Glasgow 33 - 14 yesterday in Bowling Green to wins its first and Covington's first state football title. The River City News was the only media outlet in Latonia when the newly crowned champions arrived back on Church Street. For the interview with principal Clay Eifert and for lots of photos of the return, click the link below.
Return of the Champs: Holy Cross is Kentucky's Best

"To think that a small inner city school on a two-acre block with no football field of our own, can compete with schools that have all the resources, is really something." -Holy Cross principal Clay Eifert

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE... DOWNTOWN COVINGTON...JUST LIKE THE ONE WE USED TO KNOW.
The Central Business District is making a concerted effort to bring shoppers back to Northern Kentucky's original outdoor shopping mall: Downtown Covington. With help from the City of Covington, Renaissance Covington, the Covington Business Council, and the Mainstrasse Village Association, our fair city is decking the halls this holiday season with shopping specials and beautiful decor. Today is particularly significant. Following last week's Small Business Saturday, which local retailers tell The River City News was a huge success, local merchants will celebrate this evening with a reception at the Avenue Lounge and a holiday decoration contest. The festivities begin at 5:00PM. For complete details, click here.

IS SIMS FURNITURE A SHOO-IN FOR THE TOP PRIZE?
Probably. The effort by Sims to recreate the old-school style of window displays from decades past is one that not only benefits their business, but the entire city. People are coming Downtown just to see it, and it really is breathtakingly spectacular. If you haven't been down there (Madison Avenue), go! But, for a preview, you can click the link below.

MIRACLE IN MAINSTRASSE VILLAGE
The Mainstrasse Village continues its reign among the best urban experiences in all of Greater Cincinnati this weekend. The Holmes High School band will be there to jingle-bell-rock the crowd starting at 1:00PM followed by a live performance of popular local band, The Turkeys. Parties for hosting, marshmallows for roasting, and caroling out in the snow! No, seriously, that Christmas song comes to life today in Mainstrasse. There will be marshmallows for roasting and this evening, you're the star with Christmas Karaoke at the Goose Girl Fountain. What are you waiting for? For complete details, click here.

CHIQUITA CEO TAKEN TO TASK BY CINCINNATI CLUB PROMOTER
Heuser @ Twitter
Aguirre @ Twitter
Have I mentioned how much I love Twitter? Where else would could I watch a conversation between Chiquita CEO Fernando Aguirre and Cincinnati club promoter (and my Tau Kappa Epsilon @ NKU fraternity brother) Josh Heuser go at it (gentlemanly, of course) in real time? Take a look at the transcript:

AGUIRREWho might be the #Chiquita 2011 #HeroOfTheGame ? Find out at #Redsfest 2morrow.

HEUSERur still hyping Cincy?

AGUIRRE:  @Reds & @redscommunity will always be on the priority list. #Chiquita #HeroOfTheGame = $20K for kids

HEUSER: let's not make it about kids. We know its about the airport or lack there.

AGUIRRE: 2 different things. #Chiquita and I will continue to support the @reds & @redscommunity The airport is an issue to most.

HEUSER: I hope the region realizes the airport is THE most Important issue our region

AGUIRRE: Me too. But complicated by political leaders thinking it's a KY problem.

HEUSER:  I enjoy following you and wish u the best. My frustration comes from "leaders" not seeing what's right in front of them.

AGUIRRE: Couldn't agree with u more. Particularly about some political leaders who only worry about reelection. Thx 4 following.

HEUSER: ur correct, hopefully our candid "tweets" shed light to others. More info than the paper reported

AGUIRRE: I wish I could shed more light but my Dad always said that U didn't need to dump on others to get ahead.

HEUSER: ur dad is a wise man. Thank you for the candid conversation and look forward to following u through the next chapter

PRETTY COOL, RIGHT?

DID JENI LEE DINKEL ASSAULT HER VICTIM'S MOM AT THE ARONOFF?
Apparently, for the latest run of Wicked at the Aronoff Center, the real drama wasn't on stage. Convicted child molester and former makeup executive Jeni Lee Dinkel, who had sex with a 15-year old boy, allegedly got into a fight with that boy's mother when they crossed paths around Thanksgiving during a performance. Anybody got any good Elphaba jokes?

MUSIC COMMUNITY FRETS OVER SOUTHGATE HOUSE
This really is a huge loss for the region, in case you didn't know:
"You can't replace that place," said Chris Schadler of Northside, the Southgate House's in-house promoter from 1995 to 2008. "A band can go anywhere and do a show and make that place cool, but the Southgate House was a step above that. That place is unique and everybody knows it."

NKY TEA PARTY PRESIDENT TO RUN FOR LEGISLATURE
Yet another Tea Party challenge in a GOP primary. First, Thayer and now, Wuchner. Cathy Flaig narrowly lost her bid to unseat Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore in the 2010 GOP primary.

THE RUMBLE IN RUPP: #1 KENTUCKY HOSTS NORTH CAROLINA
The game is at noon, so I have to wrap this up. UNC will be out for revenge following last year's loss to UK in the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament that sent Kentucky to the Final Four. This should be a great game.
UK head coach John Calipari previews the game in the Kentucky Kernel here.
