FUNDING CRUNCH LEADS TO CUTS AT BLUEGRASS LEGAL AID
It includes the loss of two lawyers at the Covington location:
Before the most recent cuts, Legal Aid of the Bluegrass was already turning away 7,062 people who requested help and were eligible in terms of income. Legal aid societies provide legal services to persons at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty guideline ($13,963 for an individual and $28,813 for a family of four). About 60 million Americans qualify for civil legal assistance, according to the LSC.

SMOKING BAN EXPECTED TO PASS COMMITTEE TUESDAY
The bill would establish a statewide smoking ban in Kentucky. It may pass the House, but:
“You know my concern I don’t think it has the votes to get out of the Senate. So we’re going to start counting again and if we don’t have the votes to get it out of the Senate I don’t believe we’ll vote on it on the House,” she says.

JUVENILE JAILS CAN'T SEARCH NAKED TEENS, SAYS NEW STATE POLICY
A federal judge ruled that searching the naked teens before they are admitted to a juvenile facility is unconstitutional:
Stacy Floden, director of program services for the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, said that "body identification/health assessment" screenings, for years, have been part of the standard operating procedure for all youths entering, as inmates or residents, all facilities overseen by the juvenile justice department.
When asked repeatedly if, before the Dec. 9 directive, that meant all of the entering youths were required to be nude during those examinations, she repeatedly answered "yes." But later, she said she needed to double check that. She later sent a reporter an e-mail saying she could not discuss pending litigation.

WARM WINTER IS BAD NEWS FOR THE HONEYBEES
They have emerged a little early:

MOST VALUBALE COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAM IS IN KY, BUT NOT WILDCATS
It's Louisville:
The KFC Yum! Center helped the Cardinals join Kentucky and Syracuse as the three teams that averaged more than 20,000 fans per home gamelast season. Only four NBA teams managed the same feat last season. The similarity between college and professional basketball is also apparent in ticket prices. Louisville charges $35 per ticket for most home games. It might not sound like a lot, but seven NBA teams had a lower average ticket price last season.
UK was ranked fifth. Read the whole thing at the link.
