FEDS MOVE TO BLOCK OMNICARE'S HOSTILE TAKEOVER
Who says you can't have it all? The Federal Trade Commission:
The FTC said its move to block Omnicare's acquisition of PharMerica alleges "that the combination of the two largest U.S. long-term care pharmacies would harm competition and enable Omnicare to raise the price of drugs for Medicare Part D consumers and others."

PHARMERICA HOPES THIS ENDS OMNICARE'S INTENTIONS:
“We are pleased the FTC has made a prompt decision to resolve the competitive issues surrounding Omnicare’s attempted hostile takeover of PharMerica Corp.,” CEO Gregory S. Weishar said in a news release. “As we have said from the beginning, we believed antitrust clearance would be difficult to achieve and, with that belief now confirmed, we hope that Omnicare will end its hostile pursuit of PharMerica.

MOTHER OF GOD CHURCH SURVIVES AGAINST ALL ODDS
Great piece by Mike Rutledge:
Victor Canfield, the church’s facilities manager and one of its historians and archivists, still feels the emotions when he thinks back to the 1986 flames in the church that already was on the National Register of Historic Places.
“I get teary-eyed now,” Canfield said. “Because I thought somehow they will put the fire out, but still, you wondered – especially after an hour and a half, when they had the dome portion extinguished, and so they backed off, looking for the hot spots, and then it took off into the lantern and burned another hour and a half in the lantern.”
Canfield was told the 100-plus firefighters from Covington, Newport, Erlanger, Fort Mitchell and other departments were spraying about 2,000 gallons of water per minute on the roof.

EDUCATION OFFICIALS FLOAT FOUNDATION PROPOSAL
The Kentucky Department of Education has another idea on how to boost student achievement:

The department says the last time Kentucky had such a philanthropic foundation was in the 1980s, prior to the Kentucky Education Reform Act, and that foundation dissolved in 1993.

MILLION DOLLAR POWERBALL PRIZE SOLD AT TAYLOR MILL REMKE'S
Was it you? Maybe a close friend in South Covington? The winner is the first to win the larger jackpot for matching all the numbers without the Powerball, a prize that used to be worth a paltry $200,000:
"This great new feature is already doing what we'd hoped it would do - create more millionaires," said Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Arch Gleason. "This was one of the benefits of the new game, along with jackpots that should grow faster and better odds of winning a prize. We're looking forward to meeting our newest millionaire here at Kentucky Lottery headquarters, and hope there are more to come."

HOUSE REPUBLICANS IN COURT TODAY OVER KY REDISTRICTING
This may get worse before it gets better, nevermind the fact that there is actual work that needs attention:
House GOP Leader Jeff Hoover of Jamestown and other GOP lawmakers are asking Franklin County Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd for an injunction to delay implementing the measure. They're also asking the judge to postpone Tuesday's election filing deadline until the matter is resolved.

MOREHEAD PRESIDENT JOINS NKU FOUNDATION IN QUESTIONING PIKEVILLE
With big cuts across the board for Kentucky's public universities, the chorus opposing Pikeville College's transition to the state system has grown by one college president:
(Morehead State President Wayne) Andrews said southeastern Kentucky isn’t the only area in Kentucky that would like to be home to a four-year public university.
“I think you could make the same case in other places in the commonwealth. So there’s a question that really needs to be examined as a public policy issue: Do we need a ninth comprehensive university? And if we need it, where should it be placed as opposed to saying, here’s the place and let’s put it there,” Andrews said.

700 WLW SHAKEUP: SLOAN SAYS NEW GIG IS BITTERSWEET
That place has to be one of the most awkward places to work with everyone wondering who's getting fired next. Scott Sloan is moving back to the 9:00AM - Noon gig since the station decided to fire the awful Doc Thompson on his honeymoon. Thompson was a Glenn Beck mimic, but still, on his honeymoon? Here's Sloanie's take:
Sloan talked to Doc over the weekend. He said Thompson has “landed on his feet,”and he’s still doing an afternoon drive at WRVA-AM in Richmond, VA. He moved here from Richmond in 2010, but continued to do the Richmond show from Cincinnati. He called Doc ” a buddy of mine, a good guy.”

WOULD YOU BUY A 7-YEAR OLD CHRYSLER FOR $1 MILLION?
Of course not, even if it was once leased by none other than President Obama:
2005 Chrysler 300C - leased by President Barack OBAMA. We have the original Illinois title showing this vehicle was actually used by Barack. 19,000 miles driven when this vehicle was Obama's - I'm sure many of them were highway miles back & forth from Chicago to Springfield since Barack was an Illinois State Senator during 2004. He won election to the U.S. Senate in November of 2004 and perhaps drove the car in Washington D.C. and back to Chicago in 2005 & 2006. His Presidential Campaign began in February of 2007.A copy of the title showing the vehicle was in his name is now added to the photo section. This Chrysler was put into Obama's name on July 13, 2004 when the vehicle had 2 miles on it.
No bids yet.
