KENTUCKY FIRES BRITISH PR FIRM OVER ROADKILL BINGO FLAP
The British PR firm in charge of promoting tourism in the Commonwealth lost its contract today following a news report in Lexington that the firm had promoted such stereotypes as roadkill bingo and insisted that Dukes of Hazzard was set here:
“We felt it was in the best interest of the commonwealth not to continue the contract,” said Gil Lawson, a spokesman for the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet. “We were offended by some of the material that was listed on the Website.”
He said the cabinet believes the reference to “roadkill bingo” has been on the site since December. He wouldn’t comment on whether there was adequate oversight for the contract and Gosh P.R. He noted that the contract was with the state’s Department of Travel and Tourism, and “we’re looking into issues like those now.”
You know things are bad in Frankfort when a PR firm causes you a PR nightmare.

KENTUCKY ADDS 21,200 JOBS 2011
Not enough, but it's good to be on the net side of the jobs discussion:
Kentucky had the 12th-highest annual unemployment rate among the states and Washington, D.C., in 2011. The lowest rate was in North Dakota, where it was 3.5 percent. The highest was 13.5 percent in Nevada, which has been ravaged by real estate problems. Kentucky was one of 19 states plus Washington that had jobless rates higher than the national average.

TIME WARNER COMPLETE ACQUISITION OF INSIGHT
So we trade out one monopoly for another:
Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE:TWC) today announced that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Insight Communications Company, Inc. As a result of the acquisition, Time Warner Cable adds more than 760,000 customers in Evansville, Indiana; Louisville, Covington, Lexington, and Bowling Green, Kentucky; and Columbus, Ohio.
“Today we are pleased to welcome new customers, new employees and new communities to Time Warner Cable,” said Glenn Britt, Chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable. “With this acquisition, we have expanded in areas that fit well with our Midwest operations at an attractive price. We are excited to begin building on Insight’s successes and serving our new customers.” The acquisition includes technologically advanced systems serving approximately 550,000 high-speed data, 670,000 video and 290,000 voice subscribers.
(Press Release)
So what does this mean for fans of the NFL Network?
History indicates that Insight subscribers culd lose the NFL Network. Former Adelphia cable customers here lost the NFL Network after Time Warner bought Adelphia’s systems in Amelia, Liberty Township and Green Township in 2006.

CONWAY ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH MED SCHOOL OVER ADVERTISEMENTS
From the Kentucky Attorney General's Office:
Attorney General Jack Conway today announced that an agreement has been reached over allegations of misleading advertising by a Portsmouth, Ohio hospital that markets its services to Kentucky consumers. Under the agreement, known as an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance and tendered today in Franklin Circuit Court, Southern Ohio Medical Center will pay $2,000 to the Commonwealth following the center's promotion of its "Hybrid Room," offering heart catheterization and an operating room in one room.
The Attorney General alleged that the advertisements were misleading because the spots represented that the hybrid Room for heart procedures was not available at other hospitals; "The hybrid room is something you won't find at other institutions." In fact, King's Daughters Hospital in Ashland, Ky. also offers a hybrid operating/heart catheterization room. Southern Ohio Medical Center has corrected the representations and agreed to cease further misleading advertising.
"Hospitals, like all businesses that market and sell products and services in Kentucky, must follow laws relating to truth in advertising," General Conway said. "I am pleased that we have reached an agreement that puts a stop to this type of misleading advertising."

KENTUCKY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS ELEVATED TO LEVEL II
Following today's storms:
At Level II the CEOC is staffed with additional KYEM support staff and personnel from the National Weather Service. The CEOC tracks and maintains situational awareness and response to requests for assistance.
KYEM officials continue communication with Governor Steve Beshear’s office as several counties have reported possible tornado sightings with related damage to businesses and residences. Several injuries have been reported.
Officials warn some flooding may occur in low-lying areas from heavy rains associated with this storm and advise if you encounter water over a roadway remember – “STOP TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN!”
If you encounter down power lines, DO NOT APPROACH, call your local utility provider or call 911.
Other parts of the state were hit far harder than we were in NKY, but that information is worth keeping in the front of your mind during any future severe weather events.

CINCINNATI SOLICITOR WON'T SEEK INJUNCTION TO STOP STREETCAR
That means streetcar opponents could at some point file a lawsuit on behalf of taxpayers:
Anti-tax activist Christopher Finney asked Curp’s office in December to seek an injunction, arguing that the city’s plan to build the new rail line over county sewer pipes violates the property rights of Hamilton County and amounts to an abuse of the city’s corporate powers. Such a request is required before a taxpayer lawsuit can be filed.

PRO-GAY CITYBEAT TAKES MONEY FROM ANTI-GAY ORGANIZATION
CityBeat has been running an ad from a group described as a "pray the gay away" organization which is contrary to the weekly magazine's pro-gay positions. The firestorm that followed involved complaints and promises from businesses to stop distributing CityBeat, including more than a couple in Covington:
Reparative therapy is not only harmful to individuals often struggling to find acceptance of their sexual identity — the concept itself and the notion that homosexuality is a curable ailment is offensive. CityBeat’s editorial staff has spent an extensive amount of time trying to come up with a way to address this issue. We are privileged to have the power to speak out against intolerance and inequality and have a long history of fully supporting LGBT people and organizations. But how righteous can we act right now, knowing that some of our best work has actually created a market for organizations like Prodigal Ministries that are disrespectful of the people we are trying to support and protect?

GEORGE CLOONEY DOESN'T GIVE SHIT WHO THINKS HE'S GAY
Finally, a good answer:
I think it’s funny, but the last thing you’ll ever see me do is jump up and down, saying, “These are lies!” That would be unfair and unkind to my good friends in the gay community. I’m not going to let anyone make it seem like being gay is a bad thing. My private life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t give a shit.

SOLAR POWERED TRASH CANS COMING TO CINCINNATI
Interesting:
These new-age trash cans have the ability to hold more trash, and notify collection crews when they need to be emptied. And the introduction of the electronic trash receptacles does not end at The Banks development. In fact, there are now 51 of these BigBelly solar cans located throughout the central business district alone, and another five located in neighborhood business districts in South Fairmount, Cumminsville, Northside, Mt. Adams and Mt. Lookout.
The robots are coming for us.

CHECKING OUT FORT THOMAS'S NEW RESTAURANT
It's called New Garden and Fort Thomas Matters took a trip:
The sushi was the standout item of my meal; the taste versus cost was outstanding. It ranked up there with the sushi I have ordered at Teak in Mt. Adams, and blew the store bought sushi, from the likes of Kroger, out of the water.
Sounds great!
