TURFWAY PARK BRACES FOR CASINO COMPETITION, NOT READY TO SELL
These are bleak days for NKY's only race track:
Elliston and other horse industry leaders had been pushing for a constitutional amendment to allow casino gambling, which failed Feb. 23 in the state Senate by a 16-21 vote.Video at the link.
But Elliston said last week that track owners have no immediate plans to fold. And that’s welcome news to area leaders who were concerned about the economic and intangible effects of losing the track:
COVINGTON POLICE ARREST BOONE COUNTY SCRAP THEFT SUSPECTS
This crime is ridiculous:
Covington police arrested David Hutson, 43, on March 2 at the Can Dew recycling center located at the 1500 block of Russell Street.
Hutson was in possession of a Cincinnati Bell junction box he had stolen earlier from the area of 7,300 block of Industrial Road in Florence. That theft caused disruption of service to the area for approximately three hours.

KY ACLU TO HOLD DISCUSSION ON STATE'S DEATH PENALTY
There is a bill before the General Assembly that would put a stop to the death penalty in the Commonwealth:
ACLU of Kentucky spokeswoman Katherine Miller says the anti-death penalty movement is picking up steam and the commonwealth is close to ending the practice.WFPL/Phillip M. Bailey
“Kentucky juries are not interested in death sentences. We’re seeing trends towards abolition everyone and they are really salient within in our state. We want to take advantage of that and help educate people on this issue that’s clearly, very important to Kentuckians,” she says.
KENTUCKY IS NOW HOME TO ITS OWN WIKILEAKS-ESQUE OPERATION
An organization is looking for corruption in Eastern Kentucky, which should not be too hard to find:

BEAM FROM WORLD TRADE CENTER ON DISPLAY AT KENTON CO LIBRARY
From the library:
The Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Public Library will host a two week display of a steel beam from the World Trade Center attacks on 9-11. It is worth the visit to see it in person at 401 Kenton Lands road. The heat and inertia it would take to bend and warp such a thick piece of steel is unimaginable. As Dave said, it is a solemn way to remember those lost on that day almost 12 years ago.

BEAUTIFUL VIDEO OF SNOW AT THE KENTUCKY HORSE PARK
Weather can destroy our state or amplify its beauty. We've seen both in recent days:
CHAMPION FILLY HAS A CRUSH ON BUDDING CHAMPION COLT
Zenyatta and Hansen sitting in a tree... From Zenyatta's "diary":
In Lexington, we had 4 inches of snow fall and it is absolutely gorgeous outside. It suddenly occurred to ME while walking in my paddock earlier today that if HANSEN (by Tapit) was out playing in the snow like this, he’d blend right into the environment. He is so handsome…and so WHITE in color. I thought he ran a fabulous race in The Gotham (G3) on Saturday. It is wonderful to see a 2 year old champion remain in top form when returning for his 3 year old campaign.Zenyatta
