NINTH DISTRICT ELEMENTARY WINS ART HISTORY PROJECT
From Covington Independent Public Schools:
Congratulations to Ninth District Elementary School, the winner of the Covington Art History Project, for its entry “Vision and Ingenuity.” The school received $500 for art supplies for its entry that was created by students in kindergarten through fifth grades. Students from other Covington schools competed in the contest that was sponsored by Oakley and Eva Farris. The artwork was inspired by the Roebling Murals on Covington's flood wall and the statue of Frank Duveneck at Washington and Pike Streets. Voters decided the winner. For several weeks, the artwork was on display at The Ascent in Covington. Voters went to Covington Independent Public Schools’ website at covschools.us to select their favorite mural. Vision and Ingenuity was the favorite, garnering 16,431 votes. The other entries included Artists in Residence, Centennial, Crossing the Pontoon Bridge, Devou Park or Latonia Racetrack.

SCHOOLS ARE STARTING THEIR BASS FISHING TEAMS
Kentucky High School Athletic Association approved the addition of bass fishing to varsity level sports and now schools are fielding teams:
More than 60 schools across the state have expressed an interest in fielding fishing teams, according to KHSAA. Kentucky has roughly 220 public high schools.
"We are definitely interested," said Ken Cox, athletic director for the Jessamine County Public Schools. "KHSAA has not come out with a lot of details yet, but once we learn more, it would give us an idea of which direction we might go."
