     MAYORAL CANDIDATES MAKE THEIR CASES
City Commissioners Sherry Carran and Steve Casper, who are battling each other to be Covington's next mayor, spoke to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Mike Rutledge:
Casper says voters should pick him because, “I try to be a visionary. I’ve already thrown out a couple ideas for consideration.”
His ideas include musical, lighted fountains like a mini version of those at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

“My heart’s in the right place, and I believe I’m the only one who really understands you’re going to make Covington stronger by doing what’s best for Covington overall, as opposed to certain individuals,” she said.

 INTERVIEWS WITH THE COMMISSION CANDIDATES
The River City News spoke with seven of the eight candidates running for Covington City Commission (one was not present at Thursday's candidates forum). One thing is clear in that they all support Mayor Scheper and the 10-point plan and seem to be unanimously optimistic about the Center City Action Plan. Each candidate offers insights into their experience as well and why they would make the best choice for office. Click the link below for the full report.

DARA MCDOWELL DROPS OUT OF MAYOR'S RACE
For a first-time Covington candidate, Dara McDowell sure created a firestorm during her campaign's short life, which was aborted last week. The River City News spoke with McDowell, whose anti-gay comments triggered lengthy debates online, and in a change of heart the Monte Casino mother of eight seems poised to learn more about the gay community and its issues after admitting that she could not represent the entire city as mayor because of her views.

NEW RIVER-BASED BUSINESS ORGANIZATION FORMS
From a press release:
The Central Ohio River Business Association (CORBA), an organization dedicated to promoting and growing commerce on and along the Ohio River, will hold its formal kick-off event Wednesday, May 16, from 4:30 p.m. to 7p.m. aboard the B&B Riverboat River Queen.

CORBA is a newly-formed business association representing an alliance of businesses and industries engaged in river commerce on and along the Ohio River and her tributaries throughout the tri-state region of Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

“This is a social event, but it is also an important opportunity for us to introduce CORBA to the community,” said CORBA Chairman and co-founder Eric Thomas of Benchmark Rail and River Terminals in Cincinnati. “This is a chance for us to meet with other businesses, organizations, elected and appointed government officials and individuals who share a concern and interest in commerce on the Ohio River.”

CORBA is seeking business and industry members that are engaged in commerce from the Port of Huntington, W. Va., in southwestern Ohio/northeastern Kentucky to Madison, Ind., an area that covers nearly 200 miles of the Ohio River and includes all of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky.

CORBA’s mission is to provide a forum for the exchange of interest, ideas and concern among its members and, when appropriate and necessary, support and advance members’ ideas and needs to businesses, government agencies, local governments and other stakeholders with an interest in Ohio River commerce.

“The mission of CORBA is to unite river businesses and industry into a common voice in order to promote commerce, safety and security, environmental stewardship and public relations concerning the Ohio River and its tributaries throughout the central Ohio River region,” Thomas said.

MAINSTRASSE'S GOOSE GIRL FOUNTAIN UPDATED WITH NEW LIGHTS
From Residents of Mainstrasse member Christina Cavallo:
MainStrasse residents take a moment this evening to visit the Goose Girl fountain. The MSVA and the City partnered to update this important local landmark. A skim coat was applied inside and out AND the lights were repaired inside the fountain. The glow of the lights highlight the upper basin and the Goose Girl herself looks radient due to a light at her feet. The MSVA paid for the new lights and the City installed them. Even in the rain it looked beautiful this morning.
